NATIONAL COACH In December 2021 he was appointed head coach of the German national eventing team. He had previously served as assistant coach to former national coach Hans Melzer. "Since I've worked closely with our former national coach Hans Melzer for the last two years, the transition went very smoothly and without any problems. That's a big step, no question about it. So far, my life has been completely dedicated to tournament sports and my own riding, but I have already used the last few years to restructure myself a bit. Now I'm burning like fire for my new task and I'm really looking forward to what's to come." (pferd-und-sport.de, 19 Apr 2022; buschreiter.de, 09 Dec 2021) |

Sport Specific Information |
Why this sport? |
He grew up at his parents' farm. At age 10 he tried to ride a Shetland pony called Susi. "[Her] stubbornness was never surpassed by any other horse in my riding life. She always did what she wanted." During one of his rides on Susi he fell and suffered multiple fractures to his arm. After the fall he gave up on equestrian and decided to focus on football. At age 14 he got another horse, but again found it difficult to find a connection with the sport and decided to quit. When he started working with another horse at age 15, he finally found his love for the sport. |
