General Interest
Hobbies Breeding chickens, spending time with his family, fishing with his sons. (, 30 May 2021;, 27 Jun 2019)
Injuries He suffered a head trauma after falling at the 2015 World Young Horse Championships in Le Lion-d'Angers, France. He spent a month in an induced coma in France before continuing his rehabilitation at a hospital in Dorset, England. Doctors told him he could return to competition in March 2016. "I remember very little of the fall, which is a good thing. During my recovery I realised that I might never compete again and asked myself if I wanted to do it. But I've put that thought out of my head and it's onwards and upwards." (, 23 Mar 2016;, 22 Mar 2016;, 19 Oct 2015)

Groin injuries caused him to miss the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and the 2002 Badminton Horse Trials in England. (, 28 Nov 2007;, 22 Jul 2004)

He broke the tibia bone in his lower leg in March 1998. (, 22 Jul 2004)
Famous relatives His wife Alice Plunkett has worked as a horse racing presenter on British television. She also competed in eventing and rode as a jockey. His mother Marietta represented Great Britain in eventing, while his father William competed in the horse trials at Badminton and Burghley in England. (, 30 May 2021;, 23 Apr 2013;, 29 Sep 2012;, 04 May 2010;, 22 Jul 2004)
Sport Specific Information
Why this sport? Both his parents competed in eventing. He was encouraged to take up the sport by his mother Marietta, who was involved with the West Street Hunt branch of the Pony Club in England. "My first memory of the sport is going to watch my mother compete, but I wasn't interested in eventing as a career then. My brother was the better rider at the time and I was more interested in athletics."
General Interest
Hero / Idol Swedish equestrian coach Lars Sederholm, British eventer Mary King. (, 19 Oct 2015;, 25 Jul 2012)
Sport Specific Information
When and where did you begin this sport? He began riding at age four, and got into eventing at age 15. "My first pony was called Mini Monster. She was very kind and I was very nervous."

Other information STABLES
In 2003 he and his wife Alice Plunkett developed a 28-stable training centre at Wood Lane Stables in Dorset, England. They also run the Fox-Pitt Eventing Club and Fox-Pitt Equestrian Consulting, a specialist equestrian design and build team. (, 31 Oct 2021)

In 2022 he was appointed head trainer of the Brazilian national eventing team. "I was very flattered to be asked. I am looking at getting into training more and riding less as I get older. I enjoy my training roles, it's a natural progression and I'm looking forward to that next part of the journey. I don't expect to be on the British team this year [2022] so there should be no conflict there, but they [the Brazilian team] had to be happy I am still on the British programme and riding at five-star. I thought it was a great opportunity. The Brazilians don't have many riders, but they have some good ones and I thought it would be a good team to be involved in, see if I can help and where we can go from our first year. It's a new venture for me to train a team and be involved in selection so it'll be very exciting." (, 10 Nov 2022;, 30 May 2022)

He has issues with his memory as a result of an accident at the 2015 World Young Horse Championships in Le Lion-d'Angers, France, where he sustained a major head trauma. "The doctors said it would take five years to recover completely. My memory is still slow. I'm forgetful, particularly with names. I have to make word associations and write things down." (, 27 Jun 2019)

He first won at Burghley in 1994, and went on to become the first rider to win Burghley six times, each time on a different horse. "It must be my favourite event of all time. It's a real test of horse and rider. I went there [in 1994] with this amazing old boy, Chaka, and I thought I had quite a good horse under me, but it never crossed my mind that I was going to win. But I think the lack of doubt is probably why it happened - I hadn't won at that level before, I was only 25, but I thought I would have a go. It really changed everything. At that point, people started to take me a bit more seriously - until then I was just seen a university student who had ridden a few nice horses, was a lucky boy and could ride across country, but no one thought I could do anything else. And I think they suddenly thought, 'Oh, maybe he can ride'." (, 30 May 2021; Horse & Hound Soundcloud channel, 01 Sep 2020)
