MOVE FROM AUSTRALIA He relocated to the United States of America from Australia in 2007. He began competing for his new nation in 2009. "I have made my life and career using the system provided by the United States Eventing Association [USEA], so I decided it was time to give something back to the country that supplied me with my career. I also felt like I owed something to the Americans who have let me ride such wonderful horses." (pennsylvaniaequestrian.com, 24 Aug 2010)
STABLES He and his wife Silva operate Windurra USA in Cochranville, PA, United States of America. They spend the winter months at Stable View Farm in Aiken, SC, United States of America. (Facebook page, 31 Jan 2023; boydmartin.net, 09 Dec 2022; sidelinesnews.com, 08 Sep 2017)
WELLNESS COACH He has spent time working with wellness coach Ruben Mahboobi. "He does a lot of stretching and yoga, breathing techniques, and he's been a good help. And he's good fun to be around. I joke around saying he's [the horse Tsetserleg's] bodyguard. But it's wonderful having a good team around you, you know, a good vet, good blacksmith, and now my wellness coach. At this top level, your emotions and staying calm and thinking carefully is a huge component of your performance too. It's very easy to lose your marbles under pressure. You get pulled in every different direction with course walks, friends and family, sponsors. To block off an hour of a day where [Mahboobi] puts on a bit of his African jungle music and puts me on his table and stretches me. It's a good moment to switch off. Sometimes it's hard to find time to concentrate on your event and visualise your competition and think through your warm-up. So [working with Mahboobi has] had a number of positive effects on me." Why this sport? |
"I grew up in a very sporty family. It wasn't just horses, it was all sorts of sports. I'd say sport was actually more important for our family than education, which I know sounds funny, but just thinking back to growing up in Australia our parents got us into every sport you could've ever imagined." |
