His father Masamichi was selected for the Japanese equestrian team ahead of the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow but did not compete as Japan boycotted the event. His younger brother Eiken competed in equestrian jumping at the 2008 and 2020 Olympic Games, and the World Equestrian Games [WEG] in 2006 and 2010. His younger sister Tae has also competed in the sport at international level, and placed first in the individual competition at the 2017 World Cup event in Osaka, Japan.
